Have you ever read Einstein’s theories, or come upon one of those interesting scientific Seren makes a trip to the grocery store. She is enjoying the hour away from her four, much loved, but boisterous and tiring children. Until…she trips returning to her car and finds herself, not in the store's parking lot, but a grassy field in the middle of nowhere. Daffyd Ap Owen, renowned musical conductor, made a terrible mistake last night. His worry and concern over the consequences might have been responsible for his ungraceful fall while racing to catch a cab to his rehearsal, but it does not explain his falling on a busy street in Montreal in the middle of winter and landing in a sun drenched grassy field in the middle of nowhere. Daffyd and Seren share a meal from the grocery bags Seren still carries, and then make their way to a distant farmhouse. Strange how the others plodding through the field and down the road seem oblivious to it. The house appears deserted, and they intend only to take some supplies and move on, until they find a small child hiding in one of the rooms. Daffyd and Seren are determined to aid and protect the child even though it binds them in a tangled web of misunderstanding and lack of communication as they battle their attraction to each other. Their situation becomes more unbelievable and strange as they discover they are all from different worlds and times. What or who has brought them all here, and why? Can the advanced technology of Rapsim and Resnik, who have now joined them, help get them home? And, will Seren’s love and their combined strengths and technology be enough to save Daffyd from the consequences of his mistake? I was captivated from the first Page of Angels Among Us. CE Barrett has created a cast of characters as unique as the worlds and times they are pulled from, then weaved this intricate mix of diverse worlds, cultures, people, and possibilities into compelling plausibility with a master storytellers hand. I look forward to reading more works by this author. -Charlene Austin © 2003 (chars@writersandreadersnetwork.com) |
